Print – Circle of life

Sheer delight is the only phrase that would sum up what I felt when I painted this. Well, that is when I eventually spotted all the animals, because before then the process had come to a complete halt for several weeks. I couldn’t see anything in it. While others could see lots of things, I was seemingly blind. Sometimes the creative flow is simply blocked and then there’s nothing for it but to wait; let the piece mature.

I painted this over several weeks’ worth of Monday live broadcasts and when I finally started to see all the lovely animals and the girl, the magic returned somehow. For me, the magic often happens when I am going through a particularly tough, sluggish phase. As I get frustrated and my patience is about to run out, that’s when the most enchanting creatures appear on my canvas. I love the magic of it all, animals of all shapes and sizes that speak to me. I can see birds, penguins, a fox, a unicorn, a seal and the little girl called Idun – together in the circle of life.
