I tend to write a few lines about what each painting means to me, which is something I like doing and I hope it will give the beholder another layer, another aspect of me and my art. Perhaps it stirs something within you too.
The dynamics, the contrasts and the power; I simply love this abstract, grand landscape that literally stops me in my tracks. It almost takes my breath away when I think about how this painting came about, the different phases of the process, layer upon layer, to-ing and fro-ing, changing my mind, whirlwinds of emotions that keep on changing.
This started off as a paint-clearance job, as I every once in a while, go through my tubes and pots of paint that are nearly empty and finish them off on a blank canvas. A fantastic, abstract image emerged with a hint of a face, but I didn’t stop in time. I overworked the whole thing, which eventually ruined it.
Like so many times before, I felt I had messed up, but new possibilities often arise from my mistakes, so I covered it with completely with paint, then turned it 180 degrees and I was extremely pleased to make out the horizon through the variegation. I love the colour combination and I feel it is vibrating with something bigger and mightier, something only nature itself can generate. To think that I get to be a part of this magnificent force.
